The newly elected President-General of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, Prince Jude Osumuoh, has committed to making his tenure one of action, transparency, and unity. Speaking at the first town union meeting following his election on Sunday, May 4, 2025, Prince Osumuoh assured the people of Nnewi that his administration would leave no stone unturned in fulfilling all his campaign promises, with a strong emphasis on collaborative leadership and development.
Prince Osumuoh, who was elected to lead Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the entire community for ensuring a peaceful election process. He particularly acknowledged the role of Professor Edwin Chukwuma, his closest contender, for his understanding and sportsmanship. Despite losing the election, Professor Chukwuma has decided to work alongside Osumuoh to bring about positive change for Nnewi, a gesture that Osumuoh wholeheartedly appreciated.
With the support of the Board of Trustees, security agencies, and the press, the election was conducted smoothly and peacefully, Osumuoh noted. He took the opportunity to thank everyone involved in the process for their collective effort in ensuring a successful outcome.
Looking ahead, Prince Osumuoh outlined his administration's key priorities, starting with the construction of a new, state-of-the-art town hall for Nnewi. This ambitious project is at the forefront of his plans to uplift the community’s infrastructure. He revealed that once a suitable parcel of land is secured for the project, work would commence immediately, with no time wasted on delays. Osumuoh's passion for development was evident as he vowed to ensure that the town hall project becomes a reality during his tenure.
One of the central themes of the meeting was Osumuoh's call for unity and collaboration within the Nnewi community. He appealed to all members of the community, including those who were in opposition during the election, to put aside differences and join hands in moving the town forward. "This is not the time to be in opposition," Osumuoh said. "The election is over, and now we must all work together for the future of Nnewi. We cannot afford to waste any time. It is time to hit the ground running and make real progress."
In line with his commitment to transparency and accountability, Prince Osumuoh also took the opportunity to address the financial aspects of last year’s Afiaolu festival. He presented a detailed account of the income and expenditure from the festival, ensuring the community that his administration would be committed to transparency in all future financial dealings. Furthermore, he announced the formation of a new committee, headed by Mr. Austin Manuel Jideofor, to oversee the 2025 edition of the Afiaolu festival. This gesture is a part of Osumuoh’s broader plan to make governance in Nnewi more inclusive, open, and accountable.
Osumuoh's administration is also set to introduce several new committees, each with a specific mandate aimed at enhancing various aspects of community life. Among the committees announced was a five-member conflict resolution committee, which would be composed of representatives from the four quarters of Nnewi. The committee is expected to address any disagreements within the community and work towards resolving issues amicably.
Additionally, Osumuoh unveiled committees dedicated to ensuring the improvement of electricity supply in the region, a critical issue for Nnewi residents. There were also committees formed for media relations, works, and contact and mobilization. Notably, Osumuoh emphasized that under his leadership, the media would play an active and important role. Unlike previous administrations, where media activities were often sidelined, Osumuoh promised to maintain open communication with the public, ensuring that the Nnewi indigenes at home and abroad remain informed about the administration’s activities and progress.
Transparency was a key theme throughout his speech. Osumuoh made it clear that his administration would have nothing to hide, a stark contrast to the lack of openness seen in some past leaderships. He reassured the people of Nnewi that they would be kept in the loop on all significant decisions, plans, and developments.
The presence of the Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Mr. Echezona Anazodo, added weight to the gathering, with Anazodo addressing the attendees on matters of common interest. His presence underscored the importance of cooperation between the various arms of leadership in the region, and his speech reflected shared goals for the progress of Nnewi.
The maiden town union meeting, which marked the beginning of Osumuoh's administration, was a symbolic moment for the Nnewi community. It highlighted not only the unity that the new PG seeks to foster but also his determination to set a new course for the town's future. With a strong focus on infrastructure, transparency, and collaborative governance, Prince Osumuoh's vision is one that promises to steer Nnewi toward greater prosperity.
As the meeting concluded, it was clear that Prince Jude Osumuoh’s leadership would be defined by a commitment to unity, progress, and accountability. His call for all hands to be on deck reflects his inclusive leadership style, and his early steps toward setting up essential committees show that his administration will not waste time in fulfilling its promises.
The Nnewi community now looks ahead to a future that holds promise under the leadership of a PG determined to make a real difference in the lives of its people.
