Chidinma Ekile, the Nigerian gospel artist who first rose to fame through Project Fame West Africa, has opened up about one of the most terrifying yet transformative periods of her life. The singer recently shared details of a deeply personal and spiritual journey that involved over 40 days of intense fasting, prayer, and emotional struggle on a secluded mountain.
During her testimony to a congregation, Chidinma recounted how she sought divine clarity and healing, believing it was necessary to separate herself from worldly distractions. Her days were filled with fervent worship and her nights spent under open skies, alone with her thoughts and the voice of God. What began as a spiritual retreat soon turned into a battlefield of the soul.
The singer disclosed that her journey into isolation came after a period of emotional emptiness, despite her outward success. “I came back from America, and I went straight to the bush,” she recalled. “I slept outside on one side the whole time. I cried, I prayed, I sang, and God came to me. He really came. It was so real. I never knew He loved me this much.”
Her time in the wilderness stripped her of physical comfort and tested her mental and spiritual limits. She fasted continuously, watched her body grow thin, and faced the kind of inner turmoil that would shake anyone’s foundation. Yet it was in this brokenness, she said, that God began to do His work.
But amidst her prayers and surrender came an overwhelming moment of darkness. Chidinma shared a chilling episode in which she encountered a powerful, malevolent presence. One night, while still deep in her isolation, she described being led to the edge of a cliff by a sinister voice. “It was completely dark. The devil brought me there and told me to jump,” she said. “The voice was strong. He wanted to end it before the mission could be fulfilled.”
According to her, the attack wasn’t just emotional or metaphorical. It was a real, physical confrontation with a force that sought to destroy her purpose. “I was right at the cliff and ready to jump. I could feel the pull,” she continued. “But something was there. I couldn’t jump. There was a barricade. I cried and cried, then my spiritual mother came. She rescued me.”
The singer compared the ordeal to undergoing surgery in a divine theatre. “God performed surgery on me. He took out some things, put in others. He broke me completely, then started building me back,” she explained. “The enemy knew what God was about to do and tried to abort the mission.”
Following her encounter with this spiritual darkness and divine intervention, Chidinma said her understanding of life, success, and identity has been completely redefined. She admitted that material things no longer appeal to her, and she no longer seeks validation from fame or possessions.
“I’ve seen it all, and none of it moves me anymore,” she said. “What I feel now is peace, the kind of peace money can’t buy. I was doing everything I was supposed to do, but I wasn’t fulfilled. I wanted to move forward, but I didn’t know how. Now I know. Jesus is King.”
This testimony has deeply moved many of her fans and followers, who see in her story not only a moment of spiritual vulnerability but also an inspiring triumph. Chidinma’s openness about mental and spiritual struggles highlights a rarely discussed part of faith – the internal battles that occur even when the world sees success on the outside.
For many, her story will serve as a reminder that seeking spiritual clarity often means confronting the darkest parts of oneself. Yet, through that process, there is the hope of renewal, healing, and a clearer sense of purpose.
