Horror Unfolds in Lagos Hotel as Cultist Allegedly Murders Girlfriend for Ritual, Caught While Attempting to Flee

A horrific incident has sent shockwaves through the Ayobo-Ipaja community in Lagos State, following the brutal killing of a young woman by her lover, who allegedly conspired with others to use her for ritual purposes. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as Amos Daniel, popularly known by the alias “Gambit.”

On Thursday, July 17, 2025, the gruesome scene unfolded inside a hotel located in the Ayobo area. Witnesses reported that Daniel, who is said to be a well-known cult member, had checked into the hotel around 5 pm accompanied by two male friends. A female later joined the group, believed to be his girlfriend, now identified as Endurance, a native of Akwa Ibom State.

By 10 pm, disturbing sounds started emanating from the room where the group had gathered. Guests and hotel staff became alarmed as the noise persisted, suggesting that something sinister was taking place. One of the guests, a man who identified himself simply as Adio, recounted the chilling moment he first heard the unsettling sounds. According to him, his curiosity and the noise prompted him to step out of his room. Another guest had already called the attention of hotel security to the commotion.

Security personnel approached the door and knocked repeatedly, but received no response. Sensing danger, they retrieved a spare key and unlocked the door. What they discovered was a nightmare come to life. A young woman lay lifeless on the floor, drenched in blood, with clear signs of a violent attack.

Panic quickly gripped the hotel as staff members raised an alarm. A frantic search was launched for the occupants of the room, two of whom had already fled. The third man, later identified as Daniel, was found hiding within the hotel premises. He was attempting to escape toward the gate when he was caught.

A hotel staff member, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case, said that Daniel was intercepted as he made a dash for the exit. The suspect was reportedly beaten by those who apprehended him. During the confrontation, a dagger believed to have been used in the murder fell from his body. While being restrained, he allegedly confessed to killing the woman with the help of his two fleeing accomplices, claiming it was for ritual purposes.

The Lagos State Police Command, through its spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, provided further details. According to the statement, the incident was officially reported on Friday by the hotel manager, who had discovered the crime after hearing strange noises the night before.

The police were swift to respond. A team of detectives was deployed to the hotel where forensic documentation of the scene was carried out. The victim was found with multiple stab wounds to her stomach, the left side of her head, and her upper ribs. The brutality of the attack pointed to a deliberate and ritualistic motive.

Following the arrest of Daniel, a search was conducted at his residence and surrounding premises. There, law enforcement officers recovered a disturbing collection of items. These included an axe marked “UTC,” a cutlass, machete, several jack knives, a laptop, a service-grade jungle boot, a local sponge, and a large pair of scissors. Each of these items has been tagged as evidence as the investigation proceeds.

The victim’s body has been transported to the Mainland General Hospital morgue in Yaba, where an autopsy will be performed. The police have since transferred the suspect, along with the case file and the recovered exhibits, to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for a more thorough probe.

This incident has once again drawn attention to the growing concern over ritual killings and cult-related violence in parts of Nigeria. Residents of the Ayobo-Ipaja area have expressed deep shock and sorrow, calling on authorities to ensure that justice is served without delay.

As investigations continue, the police are working tirelessly to track down the other two suspects who are still on the run. The community, meanwhile, is left reeling from a tragedy that serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking behind closed doors, even in spaces thought to be safe.
