U.S. Congressman Riley Moore Urges Nigerian Officials To Cooperate Against Violence Terrorism And Religious Persecution

 

Washington D.C. witnessed a high-level diplomatic engagement as U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore met with a senior delegation from the Nigerian government to address pressing security concerns. The meeting, which took place at a prominent Washington venue, was led by Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and included other top officials representing the country’s security, foreign affairs, and intelligence sectors.

The discussions centered on the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria, persistent terrorist threats, and the urgent need for stronger bilateral cooperation to curb violence. Nigerian officials outlined the formidable challenges their government faces in tackling terrorism, protecting vulnerable communities, and restoring peace in regions affected by recurring violence. “President Trump and Congress are united and serious in our resolve to end the violence against Christians and disrupt and destroy terrorist groups within Nigeria,” Moore stated. He called for a strong partnership between the two nations, highlighting the necessity of cooperation, coordination, and shared commitment to resolving these critical security issues.

The Nigerian delegation included several notable figures, each bringing expertise and strategic insight to the discussions. Apart from NSA Ribadu, attendees included Her Excellency Bianca Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector General of Police; Chief Lateef Olasunkami Fagbemi, SAN, Attorney General of the Federation; General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff; and Lt. Gen. EAP Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence. Additional participants were Ms. Idayat Hassan, Special Adviser to ONSA; Ambassador Ibrahim Babani, Director of Foreign Relations, ONSA; Ambassador Nuru Biu, Acting CDA, Embassy of Nigeria; and Paul Alabi, Political and Economic Section, Embassy of Nigeria.

The meeting served as a platform to explore avenues for enhancing security assistance, sharing intelligence, and coordinating joint initiatives aimed at eliminating terrorist threats while safeguarding vulnerable populations. Both sides recognized the urgency of addressing the escalating violence and reaffirmed their commitment to close collaboration in pursuit of peace and stability.
